“We are sometimes inclined to think of God as mechanical, as though God just set a date for this or that event to occur. But my opinion is that one of the works of the Holy Ghost is to prepare the hearts of men in advance by putting within them a strong hunger for that event that has been promised by God until it comes to pass.”

Praying for Revival- John G Lake

We need a holy desperation to consume us. Such holy desperation comes from hunger.

  1. Get Hungry

“Blessed are they which hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.”

Matthew 5: 6

Here we see a law of Heaven; that the Lord will satisfy all who are hungry. The reason we often fail to see a great and mighty move of God in our lives and churches is the lack of hunger. We become content. But what we fail to see is that hunger is necessary. Without hunger, we would fail to feed our bodies and provide them the nutrition necessary for life. If the body is not properly fed, it no longer thrives as it should, but suffers. It is the same with spiritual hunger. We need to get hungry for more of Him!

“Hunger can be a good thing. It is the greatest persuader I know.”

“There is a certain spirit of desperation that accompanies hunger.”

“I wish we were desperately hungry for God”

“Blessed are they which hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.”

Matthew 5: 6

  1. Righteousness

What does righteousness mean?

“Righteousness is the rightness of God. The rightness of God in spirit, the rightness of God in your soul, the rightness of God in your body, the rightness of God in your affairs, in your home, in your business, everywhere.”

Today people buy all kinds of supplements to help their body perform better. They take certain supplements to prevent issues with their eyes, bones, hair, and skin, etc.

But do we take the time to hunger after His righteousness in our bodies? In our work?

“There is nothing more wonderful than the indwelling of God in the human life.”

“By the Holy Spirit He comes in and takes possession of those who are hungry.”

  1. Discerning the times

God works with us.

Read chapter one of Zechariah and see how the Lord was angry that the earth was at ease instead of hungry. It was the time for Him to restore Jerusalem, but the people had become content and not hungry.

“But I am angry with the nations who are at ease; for while I was only a little angry, they furthered the disaster.”

Zechariah 1: 15

The people in failing to see the time and to begin to seek after the Lord allowed the situation to get worse. When we become content, we fail to see what is truly happening and the decline that is occurring.

Now let’s look at Daniel who discerned the times-

“Daniel says he was convinced by the study of the books of prophecy, especially that of Jeremiah, that the time had come when the Israelites should be delivered from their captivity in Babylon.”

Do we recognize the hour spiritually? Are we in tune with Heaven and what Heaven longs to see on the earth?

“If deliverance were going to come to pass mechanically on a certain date, there would not have been any necessity for Daniel to get that tremendous hunger in his soul, so that he fasted…”

  1. Crying for deliverance

If we discern the times, then we put ourselves in the right place at the right time to work together with Him. Holy desperation comes from discerning the hour and allowing the Holy Spirit to disturb us and cry-out through us to Heaven.

“God’s purposes come to pass when our heart and mind get the real God-cry, when the real God-prayer comes into your heart and the real God-yearning gets a hold of our nature. Something is going to happen then.”

“But my heart was crying for deliverance; my souls had come to the place where I had given up depending on man.”

“If you are away from God and your heart is longing, your soul is crying for God’s deliverance. He will be on hand to deliver”

“You will not have to cry very long until you see that the mountains are being moved, and the angel of deliverance will be there.”

We will not see change until we are filled with such a hunger that we cry out for deliverance.

“I finally got to that place where my supreme heart-cry was for deliverance.”

We may need to pray to get into prayer. But as we press in a new cry comes into our hearts. A cry inspired from Heaven. A cry birthed in us by the Holy Spirit.

“A new prayer from heaven was born in my spirit.”

This bold prayer is effective and can storm Heaven and pray through the things of Heaven onto the earth.

  1. God will answer

The Lord has created certain laws. As we have read, those who hunger and thirst after righteousness will be satisfied.

“But one thing matured in my heart- a real hunger. And the hunger of a man’s souls must be satisfied. It is the law of God which is in the depths of the Spirit. God will answer the soul that asks.”

“Christ Jesus comes to us with divine assurance and invites us when we are hungry to pray, to believe, to take from the Lord that which our soul covets and our heart yearns for.”

  1. Pray more

Sometimes we think- I have prayed enough. But when you are filled with a holy desperation and hunger, you refuse to quit. You can’t quit. You must be satisfied.

“Things taste mighty good to a hungry man.”

William Seymour, who birthed the Azusa Street revival, was a man of prayer. When he got to Los Angeles, he prayed to the Lord-

“I prayed ‘God, what can I do?’ The Spirit said, ‘Pray more.”

It may not be the words we want to hear but it is the words we need to hear.

“There are better things to be had in our spiritual life, but they must be sought out with faith and prayer.”

“When the supreme desire of your heart cries out to God, all the spiritual energy of your nature and the powers of God that come to you begin to concentrate and work towards the goal.”

  1. Move forward

We must come to the place where we work together with Him.

“The Lord will fight for you while you keep silent. Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘Why are you crying out to Me? Tell the sons of Israel to go forward. As you lift your hand over the sea and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, and the sons of Israel shall go through the midst of the sea on dry land. As for Me, behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they will go in after them; and I will be honored through Pharaoh and all his army, through the chariots and his horsemen.”

Exodus 14: 14-17

We need to read that verse a few times under the anointing of the Holy Spirit. Who departed the Red Sea? We know it was God, but what we fail to see was He did it through Moses. They were working together. The Lord calls us to move forward. We are waiting for the Lord to move first and open the door before we move forward. He is expecting us to move forward and as we move forward, He will open the door.

“God did not say, ‘Moses, you stretch forth your hand, and I will divide the sea.’ He said, ‘Stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it.”

We must come to the place where-

“You have all that there is of Me, and I have all there is of you.”

“The power of Christ invigorates, manifests and demonstrates through that relationship.”

  1. Tested and Tried

“But in every new experience men have to be tested and established through enduring.”

“God has led them through the furnace.”

“Do not look tp Calvary to see Him. He is risen, glorified Son of God in heaven, with all power and authority, with the keys of hell and death.”

“I am getting ready in my soul, not to give the old message with the old fire, but the new message with the new fire”

“God is priming our souls. He is going to send forth the living waters.”
