John G Lake- The Ministry of Healing

John Lake had two major spiritual fathers, John Wesley and John Alexander Dowie. These men had a profound influence on him. Also, there is a transfer from father to son and we see a similar ministry, spirit, and anointing that was on Dowie fall on John Lake. John Lake was painfully experienced and acquainted with sickness. But he also knew of divine healing and saw it first hand in the healing of his brother, sister and then his wife. The child accidently shot his wife and she was left paralyzed and in great pain. The incident made the newspapers, and many, as a result, knew about it. John and his wife made a stand. She was healed by the Lord. This evident began the healing ministry of John G Lake.

Like Dowie, John had a revelation based on Acts 10: 38. That promise burned in him just as it did in Dowie. Further, just like Dowie, John saw the medical world as being of the devil. He was opposed to doctors and medicine.

Regarding the call to the healing ministry, Lake saw that the world needed to see a real Jesus and to see who Jesus was.

“The world is still waiting to see Him as He is; Jesus the magnificent, Jesus the giant, Jesus the compassionate, Jesus the dynamic- the wonder of the centuries.”

Lake understood that healing revealed the compassion of Jesus…

“He healed him. His love compelled it.”

“He healed because it was His nature to heal. The multitudes surrounded Him. His love gushed forth like an electric billow.”

The healing ministry declared Him as the Messiah in that hour and must do so in this…

“To be Savior of the world, He must be forever the miracle worker of the ages’ the death destroyer, the finality of the revelation of the majesty, power, and mercy of God.”

Healing was God’s power, mercy and love on display. Further, in the spiritual realm, God was destroying the power of the enemy. He was breaking off the people every bondage of the enemy and declaring Himself as Lord and the Deliverer.

On the Day of Pentecost, the Father released on the earth the Holy Spirit and anointed His church with the Holy Spirit and power to continue to do what Jesus did. We were given a power of attorney to use the Name of Jesus, which is the Name above every name. Every sickness and disease has a name and therefore, must bow before the Name of Jesus.

“On the Day of Pentecost, this power of attorney was made fully operative. The Spirit came. First, legally they had His Word, then vitally, He sent His Spirit.”

We need the Word and the Holy Spirit. The Father wants to show to every generation that Jesus is the same…

“The unchangeableness of God’s eternal power is thereby demonstrated, ‘Jesus Christ the same yesterday and today and forever’ (Hebrews 13: 8), and “I am the Lord, I change not,’ (Malachi 3: 6).”

As John explained, “It is always God’s will to heal” because God’s love and eternal power never change. His purpose never changes. We must understand that it is He Who heals, not us, and He never changes. So, we may change, but He does not. He is still able to do what He has always done. When He heals, He restores things to the way they should be, and when He works miracles, they are something creative such as causing an eye to appear where there was none.

We are called to go forth and preach the Gospel and heal the sick. The ministry of healing is for today. But there is a price we must pay…

“through this chain of successive abandonment to God, we discover the soul steps of Jesus. Every step was taken with reliance on the Word of God as the all-sufficient guide.”

Jesus walked in absolute obedience to the Word and in absolute trust of the Word.

“Jesus took the promise of God in the Scriptures and permitted them to work out in His soul.”

He lived the Word, and the Word lived in Him. We must walk in love with and obedience to Jesus. And like Jesus, we must grab hold of every precious promise and allow those promises to work in us and then through us. We must keep our eyes fixed on Him and the Word and not the problem or our circumstances.

“Men receive Jesus Christ into the heart as one receives a lover. It is an affectionate relationship. Men obey Him because they love Him. They obey Him because they received Him affectionately. He has become their soul’s lover.”

Some must ask what id healing and, more importantly, what is divine healing?

“Divine healing, what is it? It is healing by the Spirit of God, exercised through the spirit of man.”

It comes about as we are consumed by Him and our love for Him.

“Beloved, the very instant your soul moves with your heart cry and your nature years after God, it registers in the soul of Jesus Christ, and the answer comes.”

When we think of healing all too often, we see the greatness of the sickness and not the fact that Jesus is even greater. We become more moved by what we see rather than what we believe.

“Now healing is not a difficult matter. It does not take a bit more faith to be healed from your sickness than it does to be saved from your sins.”

We need to stop and think about that truly!

What we need is to learn to walk such that the Holy Spirit speaks to us, and every time we hear the Word, He breathes on it, and it brings life to us.

“every time Christ speaks the Word of Life to a man’s heart, there is a divine creative miracle God wrought in Him and he is a new man in Christ Jesus.”

That same power should every time we hear it changes us and transform us. It should cause every oppression of the enemy to break and all sickness to cease. We need to listen to the promises of healing spoken under the anointing of the Holy Spirit. Then we need to receive and act on them by faith…

“No real and final healing takes place until something occurs that releases the faith of the individual.”

“Healing is by degree, based on two conditions: first the degree of healing virtue administered; second the degree of faith that gives action and power to the virtue administered.”

We need to preach the Word and cause faith to arise in the hearts of people so they will believe. We must show them how to act on their healing and truly receive what He has already provided through the Cross. It is our covenant right (Exodus 15: 26).

Too many are preaching a message of inspiration and not life…

“In this country, our people have been slobbered over with teaching that doesn’t amount to anything, and they wobble this way and that way, ‘like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.” God says “let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord.”

Healing is administered by point of contact, through the authority of words spoken or by prayer. Regarding the point of transmission or contact…

“Jesus laid His hands upon the sick in obedience to the law of contact and transmission. Contact of His hands with the sick one permitted the Spirit of God in Him to flow into the sick man.”

“The Spirit of God emanating from Paul transformed the handkerchiefs into storage batteries. When they were laid upon the sick, they surcharged the body, and healing was the result.”

We see how the woman with the issue of blood when she but touched the hem of His garment unction flowed or the anointing of God flowed from Jesus into her body. Many pressed in and were touching Jesus but only one through faith pulled on the anointing. We must teach people how to pull on the anointing and draw it.

Then there is the healing by speaking words of authority. Jesus healed by just a word. For example the centurion or the crowd. There is authority in anointed words.

“To the needy, distance is no barrier.”

“God is not confined to methods.”

Then there is prayer such as in James chapter five. In that prayer he “oil is the symbol of the healing Spirit.” And

“Divine healing through prayer is as old as the race of men.”

“Believing prayer is a committing, an intelligent committing of yourself to God and your mind is stayed in God, and your heart is stayed in God, and you are walking in God.”
